Hoof Print


This organization is in conjunction with the journalism course offered in the fall. Students in the course gain a better understanding of how a newspaper is pieced together and work collaboratively to create the school newspaper, The Hoof Print. In addition to the creation of the newspaper, the journalism group has recently created a website to coincide with the paper. Members of the group are required to write monthly articles, take pictures of current events and activities in the school and community, and maintain the website.

You must be in tenth grade to take the journalism course. You may take the course multiple times with an option of taking the course independently in the spring.

What Makes Us Different

Accomplishments: This year was highly productive for the new staff of the Hoof Print. With only two returning staff members, this year’s group started from scratch and continued to carry on the outstanding tradition of the Hoof Print. Just recently at the Northwest High School Journalism Day competition held at Edinboro University four of our own staff members were honored for their accomplishments in either writing or photojournalism. This year’s honorees include senior Jess Segal (1st place Features category), junior Chelsey Hoag (2nd place Feature photo), junior Emily Almazon (4th place News category) and junior Travis Pietkiewicz (5th place Sports category). You can see their award winning writing in the monthly edition of the Hoof Print!
